"There is a enormous need to provide affordable housing to retain young people locally.  This is vital to secure the sustainable economic future of local communities. In the unique environment of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, increasing prices of property recently has made this extremely challenging."
“If I could wave a magic wand for housing, I would ensure that all local villages had a number of affordable homes with a mixture of tenancies - rent, buying equity over time and outright purchase. This would provide a good mixture of opportunities for local people.

Holiday cottages and second homes have a range of impacts on the local community - for example, people are not registered with the local doctors, children don't go to the local schools and younger people move out of the area to seek better paid work and affordable accommodation.”

“I want to do what I can to help provide reasonably priced housing for younger people who are looking to stay in the area – it should be possible for them to find an affordable home in the Upper Dales they grew up in.”

"Everyone should have the opportunity of a good home in a place where they have roots. Having a holiday cottage in the Dales, I appreciate I am part of the problem, but by volunteering for the community land trust and supporting this important work, I hope it demonstrates I can also be part of the solution."
“I believe it is everyone’s right to be able to live and work where they desire, but this is not always possible for hard working low income families in areas of outstanding beauty like the Dales due to the increase in holiday/second homes.  Our mission at UDCLT is to build affordable homes to help families to stay and/or move back to the area to be able to work and live in the Dales for many years to come.”
“Having relatively recently moved to this special Upper Dales community I want to do what I can to help it thrive so its history and culture are protected and future generations can stay in the areas they grew up in.”
