Spring 2026 - Call for fundraising volunteers

Fundraising Volunteer Opportunity with the Upper Dales Community Land Trust

Introduction – who are we?
The Upper Dales Community Land Trust (UDCLT) is a charity formed in the Yorkshire Dales to support the development of affordable and sustainable housing for people born, living or working in the Upper Dales.

Achievements, aspirations and challenges
For our first successful affordable homes project in Bainbridge we were fortunate in gaining various funds from National and local government, as well as support from a registered provider North Star Housing Group. These are now let to two local young people from the village.

However, as we start to develop our next affordable new homes project, which is well into the planning stage, we recognise that we will need to seek funding from other sources in order to enhance and support our ambitious and exciting plans.

What are we looking for?
We are seeking one or more volunteers to provide 2-4 hours per week in developing a range of resources and fundraising events. This could be over a fixed period e.g. 3-6 months or longer depending on individual circumstances.

We have secured the support of a professional fundraiser who will mentor individuals, to guide their skill development and help move the project forward. UDCLT can also provide support on elements like marketing, writing and organisational issues.

You may be an individual working in, or interested in working in the charitable sector, or in a situation where you would like to enhance your CV, or someone returning to work/wanting a career change or a retired individual with time on your hands. Whichever way you want to engage, we are a friendly bunch and will help support you throughout!

The tasks can be split, shared or tackled individually – we are flexible! We will help you gain experience and confidence in developing your skills.

Ideally you will have a local connection to the Yorkshire Dales and an interest in supporting the work of UDCLT.

What will the development include?
The project will include a range of resources to help us achieve our fundraising goals including:
1. Clarifying requirements: the fundraising requirements/shortfall in terms of budgets and for what.
2. Updating the existing list of prospects, prioritising them and identifying best fit to projects identified in step 1.
3. Review/identify potential major donors and trustee networks too.
4. Developing an Action Plan for fund raising activities locally including identifying likely income from what sources.
5. Writing bids (via forms or submitting a Case for Support).
6. Pulling together and presenting information from the Housing Needs Survey undertaken in May 2025 to demonstrate local need and demand.
7. Developing quotes, case studies and photographs from those in need or in existing affordable housing (may involve direct contact/interviewing individuals).
8. Developing the Case for Support.
9. Implement the action plan, e.g. submit bids, build relationships with potential major donors, deliver community funds events.
10. Recording monies raised and reviewing the Action Plan over time and making any changes necessary.
